Background of the Study

Nursing students' decisions regarding career specialization are shaped by various influences, such as the exposure they receive during clinical placements, mentorship, and the perceived job market demand in different specialties. In some contexts, nursing students may gravitate towards specializations that offer better financial rewards or career stability, while others may prioritize areas where they can make a significant impact on patient outcomes. This study aims to assess the factors influencing career specialization decisions among nursing students at Delta State University Teaching Hospital, with the goal of identifying key drivers that impact career decisions in the field of nursing.
Statement of the Problem
While career specialization is a significant part of professional development in nursing, there is a lack of understanding about the factors influencing specialization choices among nursing students at Delta State University Teaching Hospital. Identifying these factors is crucial, as it can help inform policies and educational strategies that support students in making informed career choices. Without this insight, nursing students may not be adequately prepared to select specializations that align with both their personal interests and the healthcare system's needs.
